Alkaline Trio来自美国芝加哥,成立与1997年,成员包括主唱兼吉他手Matt Skiba ,鼓手Derek Grant ,主唱兼贝斯Daniel Andriano,Matt以前是一个邮差,突然有一天他不再愿意像这样生活,他要追求自己想要的东西,于是和其他Drek和Daniel组成了Alkaline Trio(他们都是老朋友),他也放弃了本来很喜欢的鼓转而学习吉他(没办法,有冲突啊),签约了vagrant公司,并发行了他们的第一张专辑Goddamnit和第二张专辑 Maybe I'll Catch Fire,,前者创造了Punk经典名曲Nose Over Tail,后者创造了史上最有名的专辑封面之一
2001年他们发行了From here to infirmary,这是他们最有名的专辑,也是他们最好的专辑,里面的音乐和思想都是一流的,绝对的天才之作,如果喜欢Punk,这绝对是不能错过的一张专辑, "Private Eye" ,"Stupid Kid" , "Crawl" ."Another Innocent Girl" 立刻成为Punk中的经典!他们的思想愤怒,音乐安静,总让人觉得他们是旁观者,关心你,却不拯救你.专辑又诞生了一张绝对经典的封面!甚至超过了Maybe I'll Catch Fire,他们的封面每张都值得珍藏!
03年发行了Good Morning专辑,对于这张专辑,Amazon上给的评论是风格大变,变得更严肃,更正式,完全没了以前的玩世不恭的风格,在这里,我想引用一个叫Julian Langness人对这张专辑的评论:
All of Alkaline Trio's records are similar, and in my opinion each one gets better. This record is extrordinarily like their last one, From Here to Infirmity, but much improved. It seems like each of their albums they come out with is progressively improving upon the last one, and indeed, many of the corresponding track numbers on this cd and the last are very similar songs. Good Mourning is the bands attainment of perfection, or at least what we think that is for them until their next album comes out, and is and even better facsimile/improvement of the tone of this album. With this record it seems the band arrived at a spot musically that they were destined to come to ever since their begginings. Good Mourning is is a sad, beautiful, catchy, deathly, and nostalgic record. It epitomizes that small genre or theme that is embodied by a handful of albums (and a few other pieces of art), the same one the Smashing Pumpkins did- or at least with Melancholy and the Infinite Sadness: the nightime-esque, slightly dark but not completely gothic, slightly fantasty-like but not to the point of of full fledged elves, dwarves, wizards Lord of the rings fantasty. The art that conjures up images of night and death and sadness wrapped up beautifully. Melancholy and the Infinite Sadness is probably the piece of art that most directly tried to embody this idea, but I would say that with Good Mourning Alkaline Trio's dark sound has finally matured and became what the band realy is, and is one of the best examples of this nameless genre. It is also a little bit of a concept album in the way all the tracks are so thematically similar. i would say that this record best sums Alkaline Trio up as a band. They were always a dark and morbid group, and they had Great songs in the beginning of their career like Radio, but it seems like those songs were just skirking the edges and slowly but determinedly climbing up to the feeling they acheive with Good Mourning. If you know what I mean about the nightime-esque sub-fantasy sub-gothic tone and are a fan of other bands that (at least partially) emdody this, like Hole(with the exception of their first cd which was more direct screaming grrl punk) and AFI, you will absolutely fall in love with this Album. It is the kind of record you can listen to over and over again. Some people complain that it is over produced, but i think the production suits the sound perfectly and greatly improved and enhances the album as a whole (listen for the brief chimes/bells/sound effects or whatever the hell they are during track 8). Their is also some slight criticism of them for having a more polished sound since they are considered a punk band, but their sound is different than more choppy generic punk bands like Ten Foot Pole and that is why they are so unique. And on the other hand they sound is still infinitely harder than all these neo-punk bands like New Found Glory and Simple Plan and Yellowcard so. Anyway, I was actually surprised that they chose track 2 to be the first single and video, but i bet thats just because the album has so many great songs. The only song im really not that keen on is number one- This Could Be Love (except for the end of it which i love), it seems to the weak track of the album and also slightly different than all of the others, which is strange considering it is the first song, but i also found that to be the case with Private Eye on From Here To Infirmary. But anyway, this is one of those Cd's you fall in love with and listen to over and over and over. I first got into it while traveling in Norway two summers ago and listend to it the whole time i was there, and every time i listen to it now it reminds me of my trip. It is a beautiful artistic acheivement and a wonderful emdodiement of the aforementioned "genre".
而大多数中国乐迷知道他们一定是因为他们著名的反战思想,基本上什么反战的东西他们都会参与,离现在最近的应该就是那次摇滚反布什的行动吧,嘿嘿! 其实他们的主题衣服是最出名的,全世界不知都多少人喜欢,全世界也有很多人喜欢他们,只是在中国的知名度小点!
