1996年,Harrell(贝司手)、Arnold(主唱)和Roberts(吉他手)这三个好朋友组建了这支乐队。

随后他们与Republic/Universal签了约,迈出了他们正式发行唱片的地一步。

2003年,乐队又推出了新专集《Away From The Sun》。 同年,乐队又推出了Away From The Sun巡演的现场的EP《Another 700 Miles》,其中包括六首前两张专集中的作品和一首新歌“It’s Not Me”。

When 3 Doors Down arrived on the national scene with their mega-hit song "Kryptonite", it looked like the band had readied itself for a long string of chart topping songs, solid albums and critical acclaim. Almost 10 years later, with the arrival of their eponymous fourth full-length album, the band is still looking for another hit to rival the success of "Kryptonite" as well as an album that sells as well as The Better Life.

This is not to day that 3 Doors Down have failed. On the contrary. They've sold 15 million albums, survived almost a decade in the eat-'em-up and spit-'em-out record industry, and are in no danger of slowing down any time soon. The problem with the band is that it cannot duplicate the initial success that projected superstar status back in 2000.

The new album starts off with a sound that is not common in 3 Doors Down songs, but suits the band well. The song "Train" kicks into gear right away with a heavy crunching guitar intro reminiscent of something Zakk Wylde might have played on an Ozzy Osbourne album. Those heavy guitars, combined with vocalist Brad Arnold's soulful wails might make one believe that the band has charted a new course.

But that is not to be. The next track, a tune that was written for the National Guard called "Citizen/Soldier", falls right back into the classic 3DD sound. As do the rest of the 12 songs on the album. The songs all follow the same formula that made the band so popular so quickly, which is both a good thing and a bad thing. None of the songs on the new album are bad. But none really reaches past the level of good or slightly above average. In essence, the songs blend together and are forgetful. None comes even remotely close to sticking out from the crowd.

None comes even remotely close to sticking out from the crowd. Each song seems to have a duplicate. Some, like "the ballad-esque "Let Me Be Myself", "Your Arms Feel Like Home" and "When it's Over", contain the Wall of Sound that adds a little bit of sonic excitement. "Give it To Me", "These Days", and "When it's Over" all use a Nirvana-esque calm verse that is enhanced by a harder rocking chorus.

While listening to the album, a fan of 3 Doors Down would easily be able to sing along and enjoy the music. But with the album not playing on an MP3 player or the car stereo, none of the songs are really in any danger of being stuck in a listener's head. It's a lot more likely that a mention of 3 Doors Down would bring to mind "Loser" or "Duck and Run" or "Kryptonite" than anything on this album.

3 Doors Down's latest release is an album that stays in its zone of familiarity and rarely ventures from those confines. It is not going to set any kind of record for critical success nor is it going to take the band down the path to self destruction. It is a safe album that is filled with songs which are destined to be forgettable fillers in their live act between the songs that the crowd knows and sings. Fans of the band will enjoy the album, casual music fans will not be disappointed, but neither will they be overly happy. Those looking for something different need not apply.
