NATALIA MATEO（PL / D / A）
ORCHESTRE FRANCK TORTILLER“詹尼斯的珍珠”（F）
REMY VAN Kesteren的＆ERIC VLOEIMANS（NL）
The new year starts in Münster traditional with a great jazz highlight! On January Sunday, 2016 this is Jazz Inbetween, the evening concert of the International Jazz Festival between the Festival years. Three ensembles from Europe bring in the 7th edition of Jazz inbetween Jazz in great aesthetic bandwidth hearing:
NATALIA MATEO (PL / D / A)
We start the Polish-born singer Natalia Mateo with her sextet. In Warsaw born, grew up in Austria and currently located in Germany it is a kind of a globetrotter in her music. In their own compositions as well as their interpretation Slavic song tradition connects eastern and western musical cultures. She draws from American jazz and the singer songwriter and contemporary pop and rock music.
ORCHESTRE FRANCK TORTILLER "JANIS THE PEARL" (F)
The finale of the evening is the neunköpfge Orchestre Franck Tortiller from France with a tribute to the American rock legend Janis Joplin. Inspired by the songs of the extrovert singer interprets the French Vibraphonvirtuose their music new: recognizable, but without copying the original. Not by chance is with Jacques Mahieux a male singer and performer on stage, the pieces gives a very unique sound. With the Spirit and the power of a Janis Joplin.
REMY VAN KESTEREN & ERIC VLOEIMANS (NL)
Remy van Kesteren, harp, and Eric Vloeimans, trumpet, combine the sounds of their two instruments to a musical work of art. Remy van Kesteren, born in 1989, also won important music competitions, inspired by virtuosity, innovative game and his musical openness. Together with the renowned trumpeter Eric Vloeimans, a figurehead of the Dutch Jazz, it converts between the genres of classical, jazz and improvisation.
Straight upon its release, Edgar Knecht's Dance on Deep Waters shot into the German Jazz top 30, within immediate reach of legends like Chick Corea, Bobby McFerrin and John Scofield. Knecht's charts triumph is yet another sign that the pianist has established himself as one of Europe's most unique and recognisable jazz musicians.
Similar to the folk experiments of artists like Karl Seglem or Jan Garbarek, Knecht taps into German traditionals, only to channel them through the lense of African rhythms, Latin grooves and complex chord schemes. His deeply personal vision comes alive through the interaction with a band composed of both highly experienced instrumentalists and fresh talent, pitting two drummers and percussionists against a piano and bass duo.
Not only has it earned him recognition like the Creole Award and appearances at leading events such as the Havanna Jazz Festival und Enjoy Jazz. But it has also resulted in two acclaimed studio albums. Compared to the ensemble's versatile debut, Dance on Deep Waters is a more focused affair, charging between arcane ballads and passionate, richly textured uptempo pieces, which ebb and flow with great fluency. There is an urgency to this music, which proves Knecht's conceptual point of departure: That these ancient pieces tap into fundamental emotions which are just as vital today as they were many centuries ago.
