对於钢琴家葛莉茉来说,巴哈的作品同样象徵著音乐最重要的基础,是音乐中的圣经,能够让音乐家审视与音乐之间关係的圣经,也是音乐家演奏技巧的试金石。在这一张曲目囊括巴哈原创,以及拉赫曼尼诺夫、李斯特、布梭尼三名音乐家改编作品的专辑里,葛莉茉试图透过原创作品,以及其他作曲家眼中的巴哈,探索出巴哈作品能够触及每个人内心深处,并且对每个人说话的原因,以此「要更接近宇宙力量的奥祕」。

Fitting her reputation for interpreting the keyboard repertoire in a big way, Hélène Grimaud presents her first recording of J.S. Bach's works with transcriptions by Ferruccio Busoni, Franz Liszt, and Sergei Rachmaninov, which were all intended to update the music for the modern grand piano. Because Grimaud's style is direct and robust, reminiscent of Martha Argerich, and the transcriptions are dramatically more pianistic than the originals, Bach purists should look elsewhere for more meticulous and historically informed performances of these Baroque pieces, perhaps on fortepiano or harpsichord. Grimaud's fans, however, will feel at home with her rich and resonant playing, and if the beefed-up passagework, with all its octaves, chromatic filigree, and heavy pedaling, are deemed acceptable, then this album will surely find its audience. The preludes and fugues from the Well-Tempered Clavier are not transcriptions, though Grimaud's energetic and idiosyncratic playing almost makes them seem as if they were, and the Concerto No. 1 in D minor, supported by Florian Donderer and the German Chamber Philharmonic, Bremen, is delivered in a straightforward manner without embellishment or period instruments. The Busoni version of the Chaconne in D minor, Liszt's arrangement of the Prelude and Fugue in A minor, and Rachmaninov's fanciful adaptation of the Prelude in E major from the Partita No. 3 for violin seem to be the album's raison d'être, for Grimaud finds her voice in these colorful performances, and her passionate and virtuosic style is best suited to their elaborations. Deutsche Grammophon's reproduction is exceptional and well-balanced for Grimaud's sonorous playing.

Distinguished pianist Helene Grimaud has finally come around to recording Bach, and, for many, it is definitely a moment that was well worth waiting for. Her interpretations of Bach will not please everyone, especially those who are more comfortable with expressive recordings from the likes of Glenn Gould - whom she does admire greatly - and Simone Dinnerstein. While she professes little interest in period instrument practice, her latest recording features performances that are remarkably limited with respect to her usually expressive qualities, since she treats the modern piano keyboard much in the same manner as she would with the harpsichord, respecting Bach's original intentions by not exploiting the piano's considerably richer sonic qualities. Admittedly for some, this means that hers is a rather routine, quite dull, recording of Bach's keyboard works - including several transcriptions from other instruments - made by such noteworthy successors as Liszt, Busoni and Rachmaninov - but I respectfully disagree. There is much to be quite passionate about in Grimaud's recordings, especially in her delicate performances of selected preludes and fugues from The Well-Tempered Klavier. Indeed, as she, herself notes, in the album's liner notes, there is no right way to perform Bach, except when it is performed in a "...tradition of emotional and intellectual honesty, with the right balance between thought and intuition, between the notes on the page and the pulse of the heart."

Hélène Grimaud plays Bach/Busoni Chaconne


期末考前一天,回家的路上忽然想买唱片。在家附近的唱片行匆匆挑了两张唱片,都是本来就想买的:Andsnes的Grieg抒情小品,还有葛莉茉(Hélène Grimaud)新出的Bach专辑。
Andsnes的Grieg一如意料,弹得非常好,富有Andsnes的演奏创意。Grimaud的Bach却让我出乎意外,与她过去弹Beethoven、Rachmaninoff、Schumann都不一样,似乎更富哲思,又极其庄严雄伟。最让人目瞪口呆的,无疑是Busoni改编自Bach无伴奏小提琴组曲的夏康(Chaconne)舞曲。Grimaud的演出非常精彩,让人听得瞠目结舌,坐立难安。Busoni改编的Chaconne虽是很热门的钢琴独奏曲目,但我从来都不十分喜欢这首曲子。然而,Grimaud的版本完全打破了我的印象,我总算听出了钢琴版的兴味。录音一如DGG的风格,乾净清爽,虽然不够自然丰润,但倒也不干扰音乐本身的魅力。


  伊莲 格裏莫在2008年发行了一张巴赫唱片,录制了巴赫的赋格和协奏曲等作品。格裏莫在采访中说:“巴赫对我来说就是圣经。”她的演奏被评论家称为:“clearly feels the music she performs very deeply . . . Grimaud lacks nothing in power, intensity or technical finesse . . . one encounters a sense of fantasy . . .”——即:能深刻理解作品内涵,有著不可估量的热烈能量和娴熟技巧。听者会像被梦幻击中般沈醉其中。
