White Mink Black Cotton: Electro Swing Versus Speakeasy Jazz
White Mink: Black Cotton "Electro Swing versus Speakeasy Jazz" is a novelty! A double CD re-mastered and rediscovered pieces of rare and original 78 RPM shellac records, together with the best contemporary producers. White Mink was collected: Black Cotton Nick Hollywood (Freshly Squeezed), companion of Club Montepulciano and Lost Vagueness (pioneers of the lounge scene) and the DJ's El Nino & Kamikazi Lady of the City's award-winning Black Cotton and Lady Luck Club. Disc 1 "White Mink" presents the new zeitgeist, and brings together contemporary artists of today. France Platinum Act Caravan Palace, the Nu-jazz star Parov Stelar, UK's House of Austria, Don Rose and Jesse Dubsters Waldeck or the early classics of the genres "Princess Crocodile" by FMEinheit and Gry. Disc 2 "Black Cotton" is the fruit of years of searching for rare and original 78 RPM shellac records which have been successfully tested on today's dancefloors. Fresh originals by artists such as Django Reinhardt, Woody Herman and Benny Goodman with early vocal performances from undisputed legends like Billie Holiday and Ella Fitzgerald.

Here's what they're saying:
"As we emerge from the freeze of 2010, we have HOT music to stir the adrenalin, and when we say HOT we mean scorching. Music from the era that defined HOT.
ELECTRO-SWING has been steadily growing in influence, an exciting fusion of the HOT jazz of the
1920's and 1930's merged with HIPHOP, DANCE and FUNKY Rhythms...
This week sees the release of the first compilation devoted to the scene WHITE MINK BLACK COTTON, and
we've made it our Album Of The Week." (Tunes)
"Yes, this really is a new genre and an exciting one, for once!" Time Out
"Pick-of-the-week" The Guardian
"A sublimely decadent collection" (Clash)

I played this in the background for a recent graduation party. It generated a lot of interest across the population fof older folks and younger folks alike. I'd describe it as "upbeat chill" electro swing. great for background music but gets toes tapping at the same time. the CD of contemporary (non-electro) swing is also high quality, interesting music for many occasions such as coctails or housework.

5.0 out of 5 stars Steampunk and Electro-Swing, and Swing - Fantastic Albums! July 25, 2011
Great Steampunk music here, and the stuff that isn't is all a joy to listen to, too.
"White Mink, Black Cotton" is probably the best Electro-Swing album, and the best Swing album that I own - and they come in the same package.
I found out about this album because Abney Park had asked a club DJ to spin a few tracks from it as background musing before one of their shows began - the tracks were from the 'White Mink' album.
If you are looking for more Electro-Swing, or more Steampunk music, I highly recomend Caravan Palace too.

"Black Cotton (CD2) has been re-mastered from rare and original vinyl 78's as heard at London's legendary Black Cotton Club. Due to the historic nature of these recordings, it has not been possible to fully credit everyone involved i their making. There is also an amount of crackle and degradation inherent in their sound which we consider part of the appeal; This has to some extent been retained in order to bring you as much of the clarity of the original recordings as possible".
With gatefold, fold-out sleeve in gatefold plastic wallet.
