Volcanic Ash: The Ticking Timebomb
Just what you need as you’re preparing to fly off on your summer holidays — a documentary about the Icelandic volcano called Eyjafjallajökull (me neither) that caused worldwide disruption in April because of the cloud of ash that grounded just about every flight and left people stranded for weeks. The programme suggests that far worse problems could be on the horizon — that if the neighbouring volcano should erupt (as it usually does after Eyjafjallajökull shows some activity) — well, we could be looking at a year and a half’s worth of cancelled flights. Is this nature’s way of telling us that we weren’t meant to fly? If that’s the case, so be it: no one will miss the check-ins, security checks and cramped seats.
