At this point, it's decent. The beginning is really great, but the middle drags and the end is somewhat of a let down. Russell Crowe and Laura Dern's characters are underdeveloped (which was something we talked about in the discussion group afterward). The two younger actors, Jon Foster and Sophie Traub, really did a fantastic job, however. Strong performances. The discussion group basically asked us for all of our reactions. They wanted to know how we rated the movie (excellent, very good, good, fair, poor) and if we didn't rate it as "excellent," they wanted to know why. It sounds like things are still being tweaked and moved around. I'm interested to see it again when it comes out for real. The whole thing really feels like In the Bedroom: shocking beginning, no action in the middle, and a somewhat decent ending. We'll see what they do with it, though.
