　　影片由两个故事组合而成。《关于瓦德莫尔先生的事实/The Facts in the Case of Mr. Valdemar》：一个女人的老公，濒临死亡躺在病床上，女人为了得到他老公的全部财产，请来了一位催眠大师，替老公催眠以便获得他财产的所有信息，当他老公准备告诉她的时候，却断了气；逝者死不瞑目，决定报复她的妻子。《黑猫/The Black Cat》：一位从事法庭鉴定工作的女士，从大街上捡回来一只流浪猫，这让她的男朋友非常不高兴，他把一个皮球扔到房间外面，企图摆脱这只小猫，但事情远远没有他想的那么简单，恶魔才刚刚开始……
