《Volume 1: Sound Magic》在1996年发售的时候，Afro Celts 就诠释了其“世界大融合”的特性。它融合了传统的凯尔特音乐及非洲音乐风格，成为了史上最畅销最受好评的专辑之一。此专辑的灵感来源广泛，包括 Peter Gabriel 的自由音乐试验、Jamie Reed 的迷幻非凯尔特艺术作品封面及制作人 Simon Emmerson 制作《Baaba Maal》时和凯尔特音乐家的合作。
于后来发行的 Afro Celts 不同的是，专辑1没有人员之间的区分，在 Emmerson 细心认真的制作下，所有参与专辑制作的人都被看作整个团队的一员。我们可以看到很多熟悉的名字（有些人成为了后来的乐队成员），包括吉他，键盘及制作 Emmerson、笛子 James McNally、和声 Iaral、凯尔特竖琴 Myrdhin、键盘、制作 Jo Bruce 和 Martin。其他的参与者包括很多爱丁堡的多元音乐人，包括 Ayub Ogada，后来他参与了乐队第四张专辑的制作。
