1995年，她发行了专辑《Closer Than Close》，成为她最成功的个人专辑，专辑中不仅有她和Prince共同编曲的名曲“I Want You”，以及“My Tender Heart”等，更值得一提的是，留着一头脏辫儿的Rosie Gaines还以Funk的形势翻唱了牙买加雷鬼巨星Bob Marley的代表作之一“Concrete Jungle”。

Rosie Gaines made her first appearance in the national limelight as a charter member of Prince's New Power Generation, contributing heavily to his Diamonds and Pearls album. But Gaines was a well-known soul vocalist in her hometown of Oakland long before Prince brought her national recognition, and had always dreamed of doing her own solo project. It finally materialized with 1995's Closer Than Close, an album ranging from torch ballads to funk to a cover of Bob Marley's "Concrete Jungles" and which reflects Gaines' social consciousness and Buddhist spirituality.
