1843年创刊于英国。是一份包含新闻、政治经济观点和深度分析的周刊。该杂志所有的文章都不署名，皆由集体创作。
《经济学人》在20世纪20年代发行量仅有3700份，直到1970还未能突破10万大关。如今，杂志分别在7个国家印刷，其发行量已超过70万，其中有4/5的发行是在英国本土以外，单独在美国的发行量占总量的1/3。
一个多世纪以来《经济学人》始终恪守创始人James Wilson的办刊思想：“在文章中提出的任何争论和主张必须要经得起事实的考验”。
《经济学人》读者定位为高收入、富有独立见解和批判精神的社会精英，与此相适应，文章始终保持了一种独特的格调:不拘一格、叙述朴实、用词准确和忠于事实。
“经济学人”是什么？
这个问题常常引起一些误解。 或者说大家看到这个杂志名，就会自然的有一些先入为主的观念。这里有两个问题我想给大家沟通一下。
一 这到底是一本什么样的杂志。
首先，这是一本国际性的杂志。据我所知，许多重量级人物在看它。
其次，它是一本有趣的杂志。很多人一听到经济学这几个字就会退避三舍。其实，读读你就会发现，除了一些我们不熟悉的题材外，其中的大多数文章写得机智，幽默，有力度。
二我适不适合看它？。答案是当然适合。别的我不说了，单说许多教高级口译和高级阅读的老师的推荐。这上面的文章文笔犀利而不乏幽默，是阅读的很好的材料。恐怕其简捷，朴素的风格是别的任何一家英文主流所不能比拟的。只要你有4，000到20，000词汇，读起来都不会有太多的不适应感。
经济学人 简介
经济学人于1843年在伦敦建刊，以独立和全球化的视角着称。说它是杂志，其实它是以报纸的身份注册的。经济学家每周四晚上在世界六个地方同步印刷，同时于当天晚些时候在网上更新最新一期的内容。经济学家是一本完全国际化期刊，其中80％的发行量来自英国之外。
自建刊以来，经济学家一直秉承其创建者James Wilson的办刊原则。在创刊计划书中James Wilson写到：“我们真诚的相信，自由贸易和自由交往在全世界传播文明和道德的作用是其他任何现有的媒介无法比拟的” 。但杂志的第三任主编Walter Bagehot（1861－77）才是使经济学家发扬光大的人。他使杂志的触角向政治问题延伸。现在，经济学家的文章不仅涉及时势，商业，金融和经济，还涉及到科学，技术和艺术。无论主题是什么，经济学家的独立，坦率，简练和尊重事实的品质任使其与众不同。
客观公正是经济学家杂志的的生命所在。公司的构成禁止任何组织或个人获得杂志半数以上的持股权。经济学家的文章都为匿名写作，就象它的主编们认为的那样：写出了什么东东，比出自谁的手笔更重要。

First of all, would like to appreciate host's hard working, I have a comment on you so called london accent. As brits known there is no such thing called london accent. (Cockney is local east london accent, in general people who speak cockney are not well educated. )Accents originally from the upper-class speech of the London–Oxford–Cambridge triangle are particularly notable as the basis for Received Pronunciation,
Relatively recently, the first two have increasingly influenced southern accents outside London via social class mobility and the expansion of London. From some time during the 19th century, middle and upper-middle classes began to adopt affectations, including the RP accent, associated with the upper class. In the late 20th and 21st century other social changes, such as middle-class RP-speakers forming an increasing component of rural communities, have accentuated the spread of RP. RP is more likely being called Queens/ Kings english and used by well educated people and media like BBC. cheers
