Fox continues to give television fans what they want with this release of The Simpsons – Season 2. The most consistently funny show on television and the longest running animated series in television history really started to come into it’s own in the early 1990’s and this recent boxed set is a great representation of why the Simpsons has become a world-wide cultural phenomenon.

Considerably longer than the first season, Season 2 has so many classic moments and introduces us to a wealth of characters who have gone on to become series mainstays, like the disgruntled Groundskeeper Willie, egomaniacal news anchor Kent Brockman, Dr. Julius Hibbert, Lionel Hutz (voiced by the late, great Phil Hartman of Saturday Night Live fame), Marge’s ex high school flame Artie Ziff, Professor Fink, Ralph Wiggum, Radioactive Man, Fallout Boy, and last but not least, the Comic Book Guy.

A big part of the reason that the Simpsons has become so insanely popular are the constant celebrity guest appearances. While Season One didn’t have as many as later years, Season Two has got lots worth mentioning. Harry Fierstein, James Earl Jones, Tony Bennett, Tom Poston, Alex Rocco, Larry King, George Takai, Danny DeVito, Tracey Ullman, Audrey Meadows, Cloris Leachman, Daniel Stern, and even Ringo Starr all play some great guest characters, sometimes even playing themselves.

This season also represents the first time that the annual Treehouse of Horror Halloween anthology episode was seen, with Homer’s rendition of Poe’s The Raven, as well as Hungry Are The Damned and Bad Dream House.

With a total of 22 episodes spread out with extras over four discs in total, there are lots of laughs and classic episodes like ‘Simpson and Delilah’ where Homer’s life is changed when he grows hair, or ‘Bart The Daredevil’ with Homer’s infamous jump across the Springfield Gorge.

With it’s plethora of pop culture references and hidden gags, guest appearances and running jokes, the Simpsons remains the consummate representation of how good an animated television series can be.

　　“阿森一族"六名主要配音员的薪水从每集两万五千美元一路上涨，二零零一年更争取到每人每集十万美元的薪资，调薪幅度高达百分之四十三。平均算来，每名配音员参加一季的配音便至少可赚入两百二十万美元
