The sixth season (2007) is set 20 months after the fifth season, and most likely takes place in May 2012.
After the events in the fifth season and over the last 11 weeksbefore day 6, the United States has been targeted coast-to-coast in aseries of suicide bombings. President Wayne Palmer has negotiated the release of Jack Bauer from a Chinese prison. A man by the name of Hamri Al-Assad is believed to be behind the attacks. A man named Abu Fayedagrees to give the U.S. the location of Assad in exchange for $25million and Jack Bauer. Jack is turned over, but Fayed tells Jack thathe is behind the attacks, not Assad. In fact, Assad is trying to stopthem. Jack escapes, and tries to warn the President before Assad iskilled, but he refuses to abort the air attack. Jack quickly rescuesAssad shortly before the attack.
Assad and Jack then work together, stopping a suicide bombing inL.A., and tracking a suspect that they thought would lead them toFayed, but he didn't. Instead, he lead them to a computer that informedCTU and Jack that Fayed is planning to detonate nuclear weapons in theU.S. Curtis Manningappears and prepares to take Assad back to CTU. Jack then finds outthat Curtis wants revenge against Assad and is forced to shoot and killCurtis to save Assad. Distraught at being forced to kill his friend,Jack collapses and vomits. He calls Bill Buchanan at CTU and quits.
The terrorists detonate a nuclear bomb in Valencia, California. Jackrealizes that he wants to save lives and gets back on the job thatwould eventually lead him to his brother, Graem Bauer and his father Phillip Bauer.Jack must now figure out the plot behind this day's incredible eventsif he wants to stop four more nuclear bombs from going off.

Fox日前正式公布第六季24的正式播出日期，和去年几乎一样地新一季24将在2007年1月14和15日（周日及周一）每晚的八点到十点连播两集，至于之后暂定的的安排则是在1月22日播出第五集，预期到2007年五月新一季的24即会播放完毕。
最新剧透，JACK的那个丑女友还会回来，她还会再活一天。第六季中JACK还是回到美国，因为从中国到美国的飞机要16个小时，导演明确表示，下一季肯定发生在中国以外的地方。他同时也谈到，这一次JACK要自救，他将会更加孤独
第六季与前五季的最大不同，导演说到，以前基本上是防范危机，但第六季会以危机已经爆发开始剧情．他的原话是:"你想，如果第一集就有好几颗核弹炸在洛杉矶会是什么样子．"
第六季24的故事已知开始在第五季Jack被抓20个月以后，在一连串恐怖袭击发生以后，真正不能想象的"恐惧"一天才正式展开，除却Jack以外，其它主要角色还包括当选新一届总统的Wayne Palmer，她的律师妹妹Sandra Palmer，总统助理Karen Hayes和Thomas Lennox，CTU方面则继续有Chloe，Curtis Manning和Bill Buchanan。
其它特约演员方面，James Cromwell会在戏中扮演Jack的神秘父亲Phillip Bauer，而像Kal Penn，Marisol Nichols，Alexander Siddig，Harry Lennix，David Hunt，Eric Balfour和Carlo Rota均会在新一季的24中客串一角。
